Pain management experts usually have long lists of patients who wish to have their spinal pain sorted out once and for all. IT is not an uncommon occurrence. There are plenty of people who suffer back pain at any given time. There is no other cause of most of the disability cases in the entire world. If you can help such a patient to find relief; they shall always be grateful for that. This is the kind of pain that makes them live such poor qualities of life.
People treat pain in different ways. You will therefore need to be familiar with all the pain management techniques that are on offer. You have access to three major techniques out there for your use.
In the conservative techniques, you only get to see the patient for an hour a week. This time is enough for you to do a lot for the patient. But they need to understand that the management goes beyond this hour and well into their life outside. They should not stop using the conservative techniques out there. They have at their disposal activities like aerobic exercise, swimming, Pilates, yoga, and cycling. From these exercises, the patients will gain many physical and mental benefits for participating. They do not strain the back too much. Yoga and Pilates also build muscles, improve flexibility and improve your balance. They end up with a strong spine. These exercises should only be tried but those how have mild spine pain. If your pain is severe, you should avoid such exercises.
Mind techniques are based on the idea that pain may just be mental games. This allows for some mind techniques to be applied towards this end. You can deliberately concentrate on a nonpainful part of the body. You can also disassociate our mind from the body. You can also carry the image of yourself receiving a numbing anesthesia injection. You can also do this when you think of painkillers the same way. You can also think of a pleasant place or time.
Another technique involves minimally invasive methods on the patient. Acupuncture is one such method. It leads to more circulation in those areas. Facet injections usually lead to longer periods of relief by arresting the transmission of pain messages at the facet joints. As epidural steroid injections are injected into the epidural, inflammations reduce. In cryotherapy, a cold mist is usually sent through the body, and the resultant feelings of refreshment and rejuvenation makes a patient feel better.
It usually is not easy to find what method works for your patients. Patients are different, and so is their pain. You need to put some effort into finding the right one for each.
